Career Resolutions Every Millennial Should Make in the 2019

Millennials in this current dispensation are the powerhouse – the mitochondria, if you like, of any economy worldwide. This is why it is important that they make sound career resolutions concerning their various careers and jobs, as the decisions they make indirectly affects the work-force, growth, and innovation of nations.

While it is pertinent for millennials to make resolutions or choices that will improve their careers, it is also quite paramount that we all do the same, regardless of what generation classification we fall under. Penning down resolutions to follow-through this year is the right thing to do and I can assure you of that.

Some good career resolutions you can enlist include;

Get Yourself a Mentor

It’s as simple as the subheading really; get yourself a mentor. If you know who you want to be, chances are that such a person already exists. Finding yourself a mentor is a very effective method of sailing up in your career. Locate someone in your field who is obviously excelling in your area of expertise and let them mentor you. This can be up-close and personal, or even from afar.

Work Less, Work Smart

We know you have the strength, but you’re not Superman or Wonder Woman, so take your time this year and pace yourself while you work. The trick is to work less, and I know how that sounds. Everybody is trying to buckle up and I’m here asking you to work less. But yes, work less means work smart. It takes a lot of hard work to devise means to work less. If you didn’t know, well, now you do.

New Year, New Skills

If you knew how to operate this last year, then it’s time for you to learn how to operate that, so when anybody asks you about your skill set, you can confidently say I know to operate this and that. See what I did there?! This is the year you pile on your knowledge of soft skills. This year we are improving our technical know-how, we are reading up and studying those short courses that will make us more qualified. Yes! We are doing all of these this year.

Take Time Off

I know what you’re thinking, you’re probably wondering how my suggestions for career resolutions involve working less and things like taking time off. But see that’s the thing, we bury our heads in the sand so much that we forget to take time off and actually breathe. You are more productive when you allow yourself to take breaks, when you allow yourself to rest, rejuvenate, reboot and reset.

As part of your career goals this year, make an effort to log off your computer screens from time to time. Try to get out of your seat, your office. Turn off your devices when you can afford to and seek inspiration elsewhere. It’s either that or you’d just break down all the time.

The world is getting more competitive and I beseech you oh millennial, to take full advantage of your intellect, your vigour, and youthfulness. I can tell you this that you intentionally design your future for the better when you make informed efforts to improve your career.
